Candle believed to cause house fire in northeast Atlanta, officials say

Crews responded and were able to put out an overnight house fire in northeast Atlanta. The house fire was reported at 2595 Ashford Rd. NE around 3:45 a.m. Monday. Residents told fire officials that a candle was lit in a prayer closet in the house and they thought it was out but it reignited. Fire officials were told that smoke filled the bedroom. Firefighters were able to quickly put the fire out. No word was given on any damage. A woman was checked out for smoke inhalation but was released, according to fire officials. Firefighters also rescued both of the familyโ€™s cats and returned them to their owners unharmed.
