1 transported to hospital after fire in southwest Atlanta

A man was injured in a fire in southwest Atlanta on Sunday evening, according to officials. The fire happened in the area of the 1100 block of Ira St. SW shortly after 8 p.m. Officials said the call came in as an entrapment, and they brought in at least ten pieces of equipment for the person trapped and support for firefighters. โ€œOur fire investigators are working to determine cause, we donโ€™t know everything is still under investigation,โ€ said Anare Holmes, the public information officer with Atlanta Fire and Rescue. Fire crews said they rescued an elderly man, believed to be in his 60โ€™s, who sustained third degree burns. Officials said he is in stable condition and was transported to Grady Hospital for further treatment. Holmes said the structure is a duplex with about eight to ten people living there in a โ€œrooming house.โ€ Holmes said the home has water damage from the fire fight, but also smoke damage and soot inside.
