VIDEO: Sarasota police rescue unconscious driver moments before car becomes fully engulfed in flames

The Sarasota Police Department released video on Tuesday showing the dramatic moment officers rescued an unconscious driver just before her car became fully engulfed in flames. Police say a three-vehicle crash took place in the early morning hours of June 30 at the SR-45 and SR-683 split, also known as US 41/US 301. Officers who had been across the street on an unrelated call heard the collision and immediately responded. After arriving, an officer saw one of the cars on fire with an unconscious driver inside, still buckled in.

“Get her out!” the officer can be heard screaming in the video. Without hesitation, officers opened the door, cut the seatbelt and pulled the driver to safety โ€” moments before the car went up in flames. “Their swift and selfless actions saved a life,” the police department said in a social media post. “A job well done by these officers who continue to serve with courage, commitment, and dedication to protecting others.” The driver’s condition is unknown at this time.
