VIDEO: Firefighters responded early Friday morning to a power pole fire that temporarily shut down lanes near a busy south Fort Myers intersection. According to South Trail Fire and Rescue, crews were dispatched around 4:20 a.m. to the intersection of Metro Parkway and Healthcare Way, where a power pole was ablaze. Firefighters closed two southbound lanes of Metro Parkway and protected a nearby building from the heat and flames while Florida Power & Light shut off electricity to the pole. Once the power was confirmed off, the crew extinguished the fire with water. No injuries were reported, and the fire was contained without damage to nearby structures. Officials reminded the public never to approach or attempt to put out fires involving active electrical equipment.
