Firefighter suffers heat exhaustion after 15-acre brush fire in Charlotte County

VIDEO: A firefighter is recovering from heat exhaustion after battling a brush fire in Charlotte County. The fire, which investigators said began on Sunday due to a lawnmower backfiring on an empty lot, quickly spread to 15 acres because of dry and windy conditions. Charlotte County Public Safety shared images on Facebook showing the intense flames and smoke. Firefighters arrived at Ridgewood Court in the Prairie Creek Park community just after 11:30 a.m. on Sunday to combat the 15-acre brush fire. A fence and a shed were damaged, with some trees burned near the fence. Fortunately, no residents were injured. Mutual aid from the Florida Forest Service Myakka River District and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was crucial in managing the situation.
