PHOTOS: A coordinated search effort by local agencies late Saturday evening led to the successful rescue and reunification of a man with his family after a 911 call reported a water rescue near Windancer Lane in Miramar Beach. The call, which came in around 8:15 p.m., involved a man reportedly in distress approximately 500 yards from shore, clinging to a flotation device, according to the South Walton Fire District. The Walton County Sheriffโs Office and South Walton Fire District units responded to the scene, enlisting the help of off-duty lifeguards, a drone pilot, and the United States Coast Guard. After two hours of searching, the Coast Guard located the man several miles east of the original call location. He was found without immediate medical needs and was transported to the Coast Guard Station in Destin for reunification with his family. At the time of the call, beach flags were yellow and purple, indicating moderate hazards and the presence of stinging marine life.
