Branford Fire Rescue unveils first new truck in decades

VIDEO: For the first time in decades, the Branford Fire Department is unveiling a brand-new fire truck. Fire rescue personnel, local football players, and residents participated in the official push-in ceremony to welcome the new engine. While the truck stands out for its bold orange and blue colors, it raises a question: why isnโ€™t it the traditional red? Robert Yates, Branford Fire Chief, said, โ€œWe support our school, we support our town. When you see a fire truck in orange and blue, youโ€™ll know itโ€™s Branford, and thatโ€™s something the community can take pride in.โ€ This marks the first new fire truck purchased by the department since 1981.

Mayor Ken Saunders added, โ€œOur firefighters work strictly on a volunteer basis, so itโ€™s important for us to partner with the county to ensure our town has reliable coverage.โ€ State Senator Corey Simon, who represents Suwannee and Dixie counties, said he was proud to support rural communities. โ€œIโ€™m proud of the men and women serving in our fire departments and law enforcement. Theyโ€™ve earned this, and Iโ€™m happy itโ€™s here,โ€ Simon said. โ€œIโ€™m excited about the good this truck will bring to the community.โ€ The truck, which cost $475,000, was funded through state grants. Firefighters tell TV20 they are eager to begin using the new engine for their calls.
