No one hurt after house catches fire in Northeast DC

PHOTOS: Thick black smoke billowed from a Northeast DC neighborhood Sunday morning after a house caught fire, prompting a heavy presence of first responders.

In a post on the X platform shortly after 9 a.m., the DC Fire and EMS Department said crews were responding to a fire at a one-story frame houseโ€”a property constructed with a wooden frameworkโ€”near 49th Place and Sheriff Road, Northeast.

At the scene in the 1000 block of 49th Place, crews found a significant fire at the home and quickly worked to extinguish it, spraying hot spots.

Firefighters initially thought the home was vacant, but later discovered that people may be living there. However, no injuries were reported, with no one home at the time of the blaze, according to DCFD.

Officials are continuing to investigate what caused the fire to ignite.
