PHOTOS: New Castle County firefighters battled the heat and the flames in two incidents Monday, July 28, 2025. Around 8 a.m. a fire was reported on Merry Road in Brookside Park. Flames were shooting from the back of the home when firefighters from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Fire Company arrived. No one was hurt, but the Red Cross was called in to provide assistance for three adults and two dogs. The second fire occurred around 1 p.m. in the Five Points area. Firefighters arrived with flames out the back of a house on Ashley Place. No injuries were reported in that incident. The causes of both fires are under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.
