Fire police officer and firefighter injured in separate incidents in Jewett City

A fire police officer and a firefighter were hurt in separate incidents in the Jewett City borough of Griswold Saturday. The Jewett City Fire Department said in an update Sunday that both were home recovering.

On Saturday evening, a vehicle hit a fire police officer who was working on Main Street and East Main Street at the end of the annual Snowflake Parade. The fire department and American Ambulance took the officer to Backus Hospital in Norwich for assessment and treatment.

Fire police members for the Jewett City Fire Department assist with traffic control, according to the town of Griswold’s website.

In another incident later in the evening, a firefighter was injured while handling an outside fire off the railroad tracks in the area of South Main Street and Wedgewood Drive, the fire department said.

The firefighter had minor injuries and was taken to Backus Hospital to be assessed and treated. Connecticut State Police are investigating both incidents, the fire department said.
