Rocky Hill fire officials say no injuries were reported after several hundred gallons of diesel spilled from a tanker carrying about 1,000 gallons Friday. The incident happened just before noon at a school bus yard on Belamose Avenue. Fire crews said they started mitigation of about 50 gallons of fuel before the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection arrived. During a transfer from the initial vehicle to a new tanker, there was an additional 200 to 300 gallons that spilled, fire officials said.
When DEEP responded, they helped contain the spill. They said the incident began due to a mechanical issue with a truckโs fueling equipment. DEEP officials said their crews are managing the clean up, including recovering remaining fuel and addressing contaminated pavement. DEEP officials said there is no threat to public health or the environment at this time. he fire department cleared the scene not long after 2 p.m.
