No injuries were reported after a structure fire in Haddam, which spread to the nearby wooded area, officials said. The blaze took place at 5 Tinker Road, and spread to the area of Old Cart Road as a brush fire.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is assisting the town of Haddam and Mutual Aid partners with the fire. Officials said the incident started as a car fire before debris spread to the house and an attached garage. Officials also said the fire was controlled, but the single-story house was deemed a total loss. They added the house was difficult to access and was off the grid with no power.
All of Middlesex County fire departments have assisted in containing the fire and putting out the structure fire. They ignited a back burn fire, or controlled fire, toward the direction of the original brush fire to prevent it from spreading further.
