2 injured after boat catches on fire from illegal fireworks being lit in East Hampton

Two people were left injured after fireworks set a boat on fire in East Hampton on Saturday night. At around 10 p.m. firefighters were called to Lake Pocotopaug for a report of a boat explosion, the fire department said. Following a thorough investigation, it was revealed that illegal fireworks were being launched from a boat when one of the fireworks exploded too close to the boat and started a fire. Officials said two people jumped off the boat and were rescued by another boat nearby. Both individuals suffered minor burns but declined further medical treatment. The Bomb Squad was called in to detonate some unexploded fireworks afterwards. This incident remains under investigation at this time. No further details were released.
