VIDEO: An explosion destroyed a coupleโs home in Dacono, north of Denver, on Tuesday. The explosion led to a fire that engulfed a mobile home at the end of the cul-de-sac on Glen Heather Court. SkyFOX flew over the scene at 3:30 p.m. and saw blackened, smoking rubble in one of the lots. Black Hills Energy on scene, and on-scene officials confirmed there was an explosion.
Mountain View Fire Rescue said that it responded to the scene after reports of an explosion and a fire just before 3 p.m. Crews arrived on scene to find a mobile home on fire. The fire department said that while neighboring homes were close to the burning structure, there was no fire spread to the nearby residences.
โThe homes are very, very close together; we were very lucky that our crew was close by, just wrapping up a medical call. They were able to get here very quickly and get water on the flames,โ Mountain View Fire Rescue spokesperson Rick Tillery said.
A small backyard shed also appeared to have been involved in the fire. Tillery told Turner that the homeowners had stepped out to do some shopping before the explosion. Neighbors told Turner they could feel the explosion from blocks away. โIt was a big boom, it actually shook the whole house and the whole neighborhood. Everybody came outside initially, we thought somebody mightโve ran into a house,โ one resident told Turner.
The fire department said that the home is being deemed a complete loss, but said there were no injuries in the fire incurred by homeowners or residents, or firefighters. Mountain View Fire Rescueโs Fire Marshal, Deputy Chief Webb, was on scene as of 4:45 p.m. to investigate the cause of the incident.
Neighbors also received a shelter-in-place alert from the explosion. โOne of the Black Hills Energy guys went to check that hole over there, and he told us we all had to leave like immediately,โ said one neighbor.
The fire department also noted that the American Red Cross of Colorado has sent a Disaster Action Team to meet residentsโ needs, and the Carbon Valley Emergency Management Agency was setting up a warming shelter at Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Frederick.
The agency said that it had eight units respond to the scene, and the Frederick-Firestone Fire Department had five. Dacono police also sent multiple units to the scene. Black Hills Energy crews were also at the scene after the explosion. No official cause for the explosion has been determined.
