Adams County deputy, fire crew help deliver baby after responding to crash

A South Adams County fire crew, Adams County sheriffโ€™s deputy and Platte Valley Ambulance Service team on Sunday helped bring a new life into the world. The South Adams County Fire Department on Facebook said their Engine 23 crew responded to a vehicle crash that turned into a childbirth in progress, and when they arrived, an Adams County deputy holding a newborn baby who had just been delivered moments before.

The crew jumped in to assist the deputy and provided life-sustaining care for both the mother and baby. They wrapped the baby in a blanket and initiated stimulation efforts and were rewarded with the babyโ€™s first cry. They also clamped and cut the babyโ€™s umbilical cord.

Once in the ambulance, the first responders still cared for both mother and baby, โ€œcreating a joyful moment for the mother as she held her healthy baby girl for the first time,โ€ according to the fire department. The delivering OB physician praised Engine 23 for their โ€œgreat jobโ€ and โ€œexcellent care,โ€ the fire department said.
