The Sacramento Fire Department responded to a house fire Tuesday morning on Marysville Boulevard that had a teen trapped inside as flames engulfed the home. “In a matter of minutes, that house was engulfed,” said the next-door neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous. She could be seen on a doorbell video from across the street, along with other neighbors, before firefighters arrived.
The woman tells KCRA 3 that a young man was seen trying to escape the home from the back of the house with the fire growing in the garage toward the front. “They were trying to get them out of the back bedroom window but there were iron bars. You couldn’t get them open, and I was told that child fell to the ground,” the neighbor said.
The doorbell video shows the first fire crews arriving around 9:52 a.m. Sacramento Fire spokesperson Justin Sylvia said crews had to cut the bars on the window and break the glass in order to rescue the young man. “He was unconscious, loaded onto a gurney. He was transported right away with lights and sirens to a burn hospital, which is UC Davis,” Sylvia said. The family told KCRA 3 that the victim is 18 years old. In the last update from fire officials at 1:51 p.m. on Tuesday, the teenager, “did show signs of improvement when he was transferred to the emergency room,” Sylvia said.
