Siskiyou County agencies enhance readiness with swift water rescue training

PHOTOS: With drowning ranking as the fifth leading cause of accidental death in the U.S., Siskiyou Countyโ€™s Search and Rescue teams are taking no chances. Volunteers recently partnered with Cal Fire’s Siskiyou Unit for specialized Swift Water Rescue Training aimed at boosting readiness when fast-moving rivers turn dangerous.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said the most common incidents requiring he support of a swift water team include kayaking accidents, rescuing passengers from submerged vehicles, and locating hikers or fishermen swept downstream. “In all such cases, every minute matters,” the rescue team said in their release.

“By working side-by-side in realistic scenarios, our teams strengthened communication, sharpen critical rescue techniques, and build trustโ€”so that when real emergencies strike, we’re ready to rapidly respond as one cohesive unit,” the rescue team said.
