Injured hiker rescued after falling down waterfall in remote region of Butte County

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A hiker sustained serious injuries after falling down a waterfall in a rugged, remote area of Butte County over the weekend. With help from rescue teams, including Cal Fire and the Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (Butte County SAR), the hiker was airlifted several miles before being transferred to Enloe FlightCare for further medical treatment.

According to Butte County SAR officials, the hiker fell 30 feet down a waterfall off Camp Creek Road, in the Pulga area, and required immediate extraction. Due to the remote location, Butte County SAR performed a “short-haul helicopter rescue” using a 150-foot rope. Butte County SAR said this advanced and high-risk method allowed their team to evacuate the patient from the scene safely.

With the help of Cal Fire, SAR teams were able to fly the hiker several miles to a location near the Crewsa Power House before being transferred to Enlo FlightCare. “Butte County Search and Rescue is completely donor-funded and all volunteer. Your support keeps this team trained, equipped, and ready,” Butte County SAR said. Pulga is remote. Help can be far. But we’re always on call.”
