A historic Victorian home in Grass Valley was damaged in an early morning fire on Monday. According to the Grass Valley Fire Department, at around 12:09 a.m., crews responded to a residential structure fire near South Church and Walsh Street. When firefighters arrived, they found an active fire showing from a large Victorian-style home, one of the oldest historical homes in Grass Valley, officials said.
All occupants had safely exited before firefighter arrival, GVFD said. GVFD said that firefighters made an aggressive interior attack to stop the spread and protect nearby homes. However, due to the homeโs balloon frame construction, the fire rapidly traveled vertically through concealed spaces, which created significant suppression challenges.
