Grove Fire ignites in Shasta Lake City area; crews access through treatment plant

VIDEOS/PHOTOS: A vegetation fireโ€”now being referred to as the Grove Fireโ€”was actively burning south of Pine Grove Avenue, at the end of Tibbitts Road near the Shasta Lake Water Treatment Plant in Shasta Lake City, according to fire officials. As of 4 a.m., officials reported over the radio that the fire appeared to have been holding at around 3 acres with a slow rate of spread. Fire crews told KRCR that the fire was contained around 4:30 a.m.

The blaze was captured on video by a KRCR team member at the scene who said crews appeared to be making access through the treatment plant area to engage the blaze. Incident Command reportedly called in several engines, water tenders and a dozer to aid in the firefight.

Earlier updates from Watch Duty noted the fire started earlier in the morning when smoke and glow were spotted via the Shasta Lake 2 ALERTCalifornia camera. Initial reports estimated the fire at a quarter acre, with limit access. By 3:09 a.m., visual assessments from first responders indicated the fire had grown to half an acre. Minutes later, at 3:15 a.m., it was reassessed at 3โ€“4 acres and active. No structures were reported to be threatened and no evacuations issued at this time.
