Eaton Fire victim getting closer to moving into new fireproof home in Altadena

VIDEO: An Altadena woman who lost her home in the Eaton Fire is close to being back in her rebuilt house. Months after the fire, Margot Stueber hopes to have Thanksgiving dinner in her new home and is counting down the days until she moves in. “The only thing I knew is this is the center of my life. It’s the place I really want to be,” she said. Like thousands of other Eaton Fire victims, Stueber lost everything. Her historic Jane’s Village cottage, including her treasured life’s worth of poetry, was reduced to rubble.

“In some ways, part of my soul was in this old, 100-year Jane’s cottage, and this now feels like the renewal – a chance at my age to start all over new again,” Stueber said. Trinidad Campbell is Stueber’s contractor and designer. “This is very special because we were the first ones who were able to start (rebuilding.) It’s part of history,” Campbell said. “It’s bringing back a whole town.” Together, the team of savvy and sage immigrant women – Campbell from Argentina and Stueber from Germany – are focused on building a brighter future. “All the ladies out there, never give up. Just keep on going,” Campbell said. “You always keep the same spirit that you’ve always had inside.”
