City of Bakersfield announces new fire chief

VIDEO: The city of Bakersfield named Kevin Albertson as the new Fire Chief of the Bakersfield Fire Department. Albertson has served the Bakersfield Fire Department since 2000, according to city officials. He has been serving as the interim fire chief since the retirement of John Frando in December 2024.

In regards to his appointment Albertson said: It is the honor of a lifetime to be appointed Fire Chief of the Bakersfield Fire Department and to lead alongside the dedicated men and women of this City and department, individuals I deeply respect and admire. I am humbled by this opportunity and committed to serving the community with integrity, unity, and a dedication to excellence.”

Prior to serving as interim fire chief, Albertson was the Deputy Chief of Operations, according to city officials. Albertson holds a Master of Arts in Strategic and Organizational Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and an Associate of Arts in Fire Technology. He contributed to statewide fire services and served as Southern Section President in the Cal Chiefs Training Officers Association.
