Cancer claims life of retired Fairfield Fire Engineer Chris Bell

The Fairfield Fire Department shared that a retired fire engineer has died after his battle with cancer on Tuesday. Chris Bell has passed away after a battle with an occupational cancer, an illness directly linked to the hazards faced by firefighters throughout their careers, according to Fairfield Fire. Bell was a reserve firefighter with Fairfield in early 2003.

He was hired as a full-time firefighter in October 2007 and earned his promotion to fire engineer in April 2013, following years of dedication, hard work, and steady leadership, Fairfield Fire explained. In addition to his work routine, Bell served as a member of FFDโ€™s Urban Search and Rescue Team. According to the fire department, he brought exceptional skill, was calm under pressure and had a genuine heart for helping others during the most challenging emergencies.
