Cal Fire units in Northstate upgrading to cutting-edge vehicle technology

PHOTOS: Cal Fire vehicles in the Northstate are being upgraded with cutting-edge technology. The Cal Fire Shasta-Trinity and Tehama-Glenn units are getting the Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) 3.0 tracking system. It includes integrated satellite connectivity, dual SIM cellular and securely mounted tablets.

Cal Fire Communications Supervisor Aaron Williams told the Northstateโ€™s News that, between the two units, 255 vehicles are being worked on, and that number is climbing. hama-Glenn units are getting new technology for vehicles.

โ€œTo have that satellite connectivity and all of the forms of cellular that comes in, it helps us make those operational decisions quicker and have better situational awareness from a statewide aspect as well to all the resources,” Williams said. “Everyone can see everything now.โ€
