VIDEO: Cal Fire is preparing for the wildfire season in Amador County this week alongside its military partners. โEven if you’ve been on fires for seven years, we still want to come back. We still want to train,โ said Chris Renner, a Cal Fire Forestry Fire Pilot. โWe still want to do sand tables and other types of training in order to make sure that everybody’s on the same sheet of music.โ
Members of the California Military Department and the National Guard joined Cal Fire for Tuesdayโs exercise. National Guard members from South Carolina and Nevada also took part. While the training focused on water drop techniques, Cal Fire said crews are training on communication between agencies, too. โIt’s extremely important to get the military members on board with our lingo and then same with our guys, getting used to military lingo,โ Renner said.
Throughout the day, Cal Fire and other military aircraft could be seen flying in and around the area of Pardee Reservoir. Renner said itโs critical for all firefighters, Cal Fire and military alike, to be up on their training and ready for whatever the fire season will bring. โWe do this training and it’s like seeing your brothers and sisters again,โ he said.
