Hiker in critical condition after being rescued off White Tank Mountains in Maricopa County

Deputies say a hiker is in critical condition after the person needed help off the White Tanks Mountains in the far West Valley Thursday afternoon. Details are limited, but the Maricopa County Sheriffโ€™s Office said three young adults, a woman and two men, had to be rescued off the mountain. The sheriffโ€™s office said a helicopter was deployed to conduct the rescue, and afterward, the hikers were taken to the hospital. One of them was reportedly in critical condition.

Arizonaโ€™s Family First Alert Weather team said temperatures reached 110 degrees or higher across many parts of the Valley on Thursday. A ridge of high pressure is supposed to cause near-record heat to continue in the greater Phoenix area. First Alert Weather Days have been declared Friday and Saturday, with Saturday being the hottest of those two days. First Alert days have also been declared for Wednesday and Thursday due to forecasted extreme heat.
