Goodyear home destroyed after bathroom fan catches fire

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A home was destroyed after a bathroom fan reportedly sparked a blaze in the West Valley on Saturday morning. Just after 4:30 a.m., crews with the Goodyear Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire on 180th Avenue, near Elliot Road and Estrella Parkway, on a report of a house fire.

Fire officials say the homeowner extinguished a bathroom fan fire, believing it was out. However, they then woke up to smoke in the house before calling 911. When first responders arrived, they found heavy fire on the second floor and werenโ€™t able to control the blaze. Crews were forced to use a defensive strategy to attack the flames.

The house is a total loss, and the homeowners will be displaced, according to Goodyear FD. There were no reported injuries. โ€œRemember to use a timer/auto-shutoff on exhaust fans and avoid running them overnight,โ€ the department advised.
