1 dead, firefighter injured after house fire in north Phoenix

VIDEO: One person is dead and a firefighter is injured after a house fire in north Phoenix Wednesday afternoon. Phoenix Fire officials say crews responded to a home near 38th Street and Thunderbird Road around 1:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from both sides of the home. Firefighters went inside and found a 80-year-old man unconscious and not breathing. Fire officials say he was beyond resuscitation and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

One firefighter also was rushed to a nearby hospital with burn injuries to his arm. He is in stable condition. Crews were ultimately able to gain control of the blaze and prevent flames from extending to a nearby home. The cause of the fire is under investigation and Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller stresses thatโ€™s itโ€™s going to be an extended investigation, which is typically the case for deadly fires. โ€œIt is a tedious process that theyโ€™re going to be going off witnesses, theyโ€™re going to be going off; If thereโ€™s any cameras, any Ring video, or Ring cameras, and all those house cameras and security cameras and stuff like that,โ€ Keller said.
