Fire damages Thunderbird Heights home in Anchorage

A fire broke out Monday afternoon in the Thunderbird Heights neighborhood. According to the Anchorage Fire Department, at around 2 p.m., a resident returned home to find smoke and flames coming from a downstairs bedroom. They safely exited and called 9-1-1. Crews from Chugiak Volunteer Fire and Rescue, along with Central Mat-Su Fire Department, responded, searching the home and extinguishing the blaze. The fire caused significant damage to the homeโ€™s ceiling and walls. A family cat is currently unaccounted for, though the owner believes it may have been let out. The displaced family has temporary arrangements, and the American Red Cross is assisting with their immediate needs.
