Fairbanks man struck, killed by train

A man walking along the train tracks near Anderson was hit and killed by a passenger train Sunday morning. Alaska State Troopers report that 76-year-old Walter Peter from Fairbanks was walking along the tracks, near milepost 399, when he was struck by a train and killed around 10:30 a.m.

According to Alaska Railroad, the passenger train had originated in Fairbanks and was headed to Anchorage.

The Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Railroad Police responded to the scene. State troopers state that the next of kin has been notified. The Alaska Railroad would like to remind the public that the track right-of-way, extending 100 feet on either side of the track, is not open to the public.
