Alaska lowers wildfire preparedness level after recent rain and humidity

From flooding concerns to wildfires โ€” thereโ€™s been a shift in the season, and the overall danger level is now lower in Alaska. Recent rainfall and higher humidity have led the state to lower its wildfire preparedness level from Level 2 to Level 1. So far this year, wildfires have burned just under one million acres โ€” about 995,000 in total. At this time, 168 fires remain active across the state. The Division of Forestry is reminding residents that permits are still required for any open burning through the end of the month. Officials say following these rules helps keep fire danger from climbing again.
