VIDEO: More than 8,500 first responders from more than 70 countries will gather in Birmingham for the World Police and Fire Games. The games kick off on June 27 and will go through July 6. More than 60 sports will be played over the course of 11 days. Last minute preparations are being finalized, but organizers are still in need of volunteers for the games. “You must be 16 by June 1st of this year, and you have to work four shifts, and the shifts are about three to five hours in length,” said DJ Mackovets, the CEO of the games. A $65-million impact is expected for the games. The opening ceremony will take place at the BJCC Legacy Arena, and the closing ceremony will take place at the City Walk. Spectators will be able to watch the games.
