Retiring Montgomery fire chief reflects on 40 years of service

VIDEO: Montgomeryโ€™s longtime fire chief, known for leading one of the countyโ€™s highest performing departments, is calling it a career. Chief Miford Jordan announced this week that he is retiring after nearly 40 years of service. WSFA 12 News Anchor Sally Pitts spoke one on one with the chief about his career with the department and whatโ€™s next. โ€œJuly 16 will be 40 years and July 31st, weโ€™ll start a new chapter with what God has purposed for us,โ€ Jordan said. Chief Jordan says his decision to join the fire department began with a promise he made when he got married. โ€œI promised her dad, how about that, I was going to take care of her,โ€ he said. When he set his goal on becoming Captain, Chief Jordan never dreamed the little boy from Lowndes County – one of 14 children – would one day lead the department.
