Madison promotes from within and names first ever female fire chief

VIDEO: The City of Madison has named Brandy Williams as its next fire chief. The Madison City Council voted to appoint Williams as chief during its regular meeting Monday. Williams was also sworn in during the meeting. Williams had been serving as the cityโ€™s acting fire chief since former Chief David Bailey left the department in February. Before her stint as acting chief, Williams served as the departmentโ€™s deputy chief. But what makes it even more special is that she is the first female fire chief the city has ever had. โ€œItโ€™s an honor and a great opportunity that the city has given me to lead this department, and itโ€™s pretty amazing,โ€ said Williams. Chief Williams has lived a life of service. โ€œMy mother tells me that from the age of two, I said that I was going to be a fire chief,โ€ she said.
