Fire at Oxford Target prompts evacuation, minor damage reported

The Oxford Fire Department responded to a fire at the Target Department Store on Oxford Exchange Blvd. after receiving a Water Flow Alarm call at 12:18 p.m. The call was upgraded to a structure fire by Calhoun County 911 before the fire department’s arrival.

A cooler at the front of the store caught fire, activating two sprinkler heads. The sprinkler system contained the fire until firefighters arrived, and store personnel evacuated the building.

The store sustained minor fire and water damage and is expected to remain closed for a few days for cleanup and sprinkler system restoration.
