Hiland Fire in Natrona County contained after burning over 800 acres

Firefighters successfully contained a lightning-caused wildland fire near Hiland on Tuesday after it burned 814.5 acres of grass and sage. No injuries were reported in connection with the blaze.

Natrona County Fire District said the Casper Public Safety Communications Center dispatched crews to the Hiland Wildland Fire near West U.S. Highway 20/26. Responding agencies included the NCFD, Bureau of Land Management Wyoming High Plains District, Bar Nunn Fire Department, Mills Fire Department, out-of-state severity units and the Natrona County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

When firefighters arrived, they found a fast-moving fire that quickly grew from 75 acres to 300 acres. Changing winds from a nearby storm made the fire spread unpredictably. The storm also grounded aircraft, which limited air support during the early response.
