Air support used to slow spread of Dinwoody Fire near Dubois

A reported grass fire that took place Monday, August 11, southeast of Dubois reached 100 acres before forward progression was halted, Fremont County Fire Protection District Chief Ron Wempen shared with County 10. Dubbed the Dinwoody Fire, the fire was still in mop-up stage this evening, and was turned over to โ€œBIA Forestry, BLM, and USFS firefighters,โ€ Chief Wemepn informed.

โ€œThey will monitor the fire overnight and for the next couple of days to ensure it is 100% out. It burned all Federal Reservation property, grass, and sage only.โ€ Chief Wempen added that the cause of the fire is unknown, but it started โ€œnext to the highway,โ€ and single-engine air tankers were used to slow the spread.

About 18 units responded to the fire in total, including responders from Fremont County Battalions 6 Crowheart, Battalion 5 Morton Kinnear, Battalion 7 Pavillion, and Battalion 1 Central, along with the Dubois Fire District and Federal Agencies.
