Several people displaced following fire at apartment building in Ladysmith

VIDEO: Several people are displaced following a fire at an apartment building in the city of Ladysmith. According to a press release from the Ladysmith Fire Department, on April 21, 2025, at 8:40 p.m., the Ladysmith Fire Department was called to an active fire at Greenwood Manor Apartments located at 710 West Miner Avenue. The press release says crews arrived at the first floor to find fire and smoke. The fire spread through the kitchen stove venting system in neighboring apartments on the first, second, and third floors.

Six apartments were damaged. The building sustained water and smoke damage throughout. According to the press release, the cause of the fire is suspected to be unattended cooking pans left on a stove. All 35 tenants were evacuated. The American Red Cross is assisting those individuals. No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at around $250,000.
