PHOTOS: Two workers had to be rescued after part of the framework at the construction site of the new Columbia County building on Highway 16 partially collapsed on Oct. 16, according to the Portage Fire Department.
It happened around 2 p.m., the fire department said. Each construction worker was trapped on a lift after about 90 of the 100 trusses that were being installed on the new county building collapsed.
The fire department said each worker was about 25 feet up in the basket of their lift and were pinned. One of the workers was under around 10 trusses.
The Portage Fire Rescue Department used a rope system from their ladder truck to rescue the two workers. The fire department said both workers weren’t injured.
No information was given on what might have caused the partial collapse. The Portage Police Department also helped at the scene by giving updates while the Portage Fire Rescue Department was on their way.
