Oshkosh firefighter killed in U.S. 30 crash honored in ceremonial processional

PHOTOS: The body of Wisconsin firefighter Tom Diener was returned home Monday afternoon in a ceremonial processional following his tragic death in a crash on U.S. 30 last week. Diener, 26, proudly served as a firefighter/paramedic with the City of Oshkosh Fire Department and as a lieutenant with the Town of Sheboygan Fire Department.

Diener was killed when a tractor-trailer struck a pickup truck on the north shoulder of U.S. 30. He was seated in the vehicle with two fellow Wisconsin firefighters, Carter Haen and Robbie Betts, at the time of the collision.

The impact ejected Diener from the vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Haen and Betts sustained injuries and were transported to Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for treatment.
