VIDEO: Children climbed into fire trucks, explored police vehicles and discovered the inner workings of community service vehicles during Holmen’s Touch a Truck event Saturday morning. The free community event at Viking Elementary School gave kids hands-on exposure to emergency vehicles and other large vehicles they encounter in their neighborhoods.
Families of all ages participated in the interactive experience from 10 a.m. until noon. The event served a dual purpose beyond entertainment. Parents seized the educational opportunity to teach their children about the importance of community workers and first responders. “Well we’ve been telling Oliver that a lot of the people here are heroes. We need these people in our lives. We wouldn’t be able to go about our daily routine without a lot of these people that are here,” said Laurie Truman, who attended the event with her family.
