Fire damages historic Eau Claire apartment building and injures 3 firefighters

According to the Eau Claire Fire Department, a significant fire broke out in a 9-unit apartment building located at 1310 State Street on Friday. Crews were called to the scene around 5:27 p.m. and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof. The response was quickly upgraded to a second alarm after firefighters discovered multiple areas of fire throughout the building, spanning three floors and the roof.

Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack on the second and third floors while also conducting a thorough search of the building to ensure no one was still inside. When conditions worsened and signs of a roof collapse appeared, crews evacuated and shifted to exterior defensive operations. The fire was brought under control at 10:38 p.m., though crews remained on scene to monitor hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
