Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at a community-based residential living facility in Appleton overnight. Just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, the fire department responded to a report of smoke and flames visible from the building on the 600 block of N. Division St. The fire department says working smoke detectors alerted residents. Firefighters saw black smoke coming from a second-story window and had the fire under control within 5 minutes. They ventilated the building. Damage was limited to $7,500. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Appleton fire and police departments. The Appleton Fire Department is using the opportunity to remind renters to invest in renter’s insurance as a cost-effective way to recover in the event of a fire.
