Electrical wiring blamed for residential fire on La Crosse’s south side

Overheated electrical wiring is to blame for a residential fire on La Crosse’s south side Tuesday night. According to the La Crosse fire department, crews were able to quickly extinguish a fire at the 100 block of 17th Street South just after 7 p.m.

No injuries were reported and the fire caused minimal damage, fire officials said. Investigators determined that overheated electrical wiring caused the fire, and fire officials urged the public to use caution with electrical systems, particularly those in older homes.

LCFD says to avoid overloading circuits, regularly inspect wiring and unplug unused appliances to prevent electrical fires.
