VIDEO: Rock County Emergency Management and other emergency response agencies came together to conduct a full-scale emergency preparedness exercise. The exercise took place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 6 at Evonik, a specialty chemicals company. The Emergency Operations Center was activated to respond to multiple different scenarios, and crews worked to properly respond to the emergencies.
โThis is just a recognition that there are different hazards that occur, some of them are natural, like a tornado,โ said Kevin Lahner, City Manager. โSome of them are manmade type of things.โ The simulated environment included the mobilization and deployment of personnel to demonstrate coordination, communication and other emergency response capabilities. Crews will validate plans and build county-wide capabilities to prepare for and respond to hazardous materials incidents. โWhen there is a real emergency, itโs practice like this that makes us better and able to respond when the real things happen,โ Lahner said.
