Brown County Public Safety sees more dispatch hires, addressing shortage

VIDEO: Those running the Brown County 911 Center say theyโ€™re making progress on filling positions. This comes months after battling a dispatcher shortage. The issue was discussed Monday night before the Public Safety Committee.

We heard from Public Safety Communications Director Chancy Huntzinger. She says they have hired more dispatchers and have more applicants to consider. In this meeting, Huntzinger also addressed comments made at a September county board meeting regarding the lack of staffing and competitive pay.

She told the committee they have more supervisors and leads than discussed in that board meeting, and that their wages are within $1 an hour less than Outagamie County dispatch. A quick check on that shows Outagamie County starting pay is $25.40 based on experience, while Brown Countyโ€™s starting pay is $24.60.
