PHOTOS: A new firefighter recently joined the Ashland Fire Department. Kimberly Barney came to the department from Onalaska and acquired her fire and Emergency Medical Technician certifications from Western Technical College, according to a post on the AFDโs Facebook page.
Barney said she wanted to become a firefighter to help people and serve the community. Off duty, she enjoys hiking, wakeboarding and paddle boarding. The department recently held a pinning ceremony to celebrate the advancement of three crew members and the retirement of Motor Pump Operator/Paramedic Paul Oliver. Firefighter/paramedics Craig Distin and Steven VanHoorelbeke successfully completed probation. Firefighter/paramedic John Blakeman was promoted to motor pump operator.
