5th person dies after 5-alarm Milwaukee apartment fire

VIDEO: Milwaukee firefighters are investigating a deadly five-alarm apartment fire in Milwaukee’s Concordia neighborhood. Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski posted on social media early Monday morning that a fifth person has died from the fire. The flames broke out just before 8 a.m. Sunday at the Highland Court Apartments near 27th Street and Highland Boulevard.

The Red Cross is assisting 100 other residents displaced by the fire, as the building is no longer habitable. The Red Cross said a shelter has been set up at Holler Park on 6th Street in Milwaukee for those impacted by the fire.

WISN 12 News cameras at the scene captured medics performing CPR outside the building. Some residents were carried out on stretchers and taken away in ambulances. The fire department said four people are in critical condition. Fire crews rescued about thirty people from the third and fourth floors using ladders. Others, like Eddie Edwards, jumped.
