2 injured following fire in Hatley

A house fire Tuesday morning has left one person with critical injuries and another with severe injuries. The fire was reported just after midnight on the 200 block of Kirkwood Street in Hatley. The initial call reported possible entrapment.

Deputies and Hatley Fire Department personnel arrived to find smoke coming from a home. A 67-year-old woman at the scene informed responders that a 57-year-old female was still inside the home. Deputies and firefighters successfully located and extracted the 57-year-old woman. She was treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 67-year-old woman was also treated at the scene for burns and was later transported to the University of Wisconsin for further medical care. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Marathon County Sheriffโ€™s Office was assisted at the scene by Hatley Fire/EMS, Ringle Fire Department, Birnamwood Fire/EMS, SAFER EMS, Riverside EMS, and the Mountain Bay Police Department.
