VIDEO: Fourteen people were safely evacuated from the chairlift at Sunburst Ski Area on Saturday after a power outage, according to the Kewaskum Fire Department. The fire department said they were dispatched to chair 1, the most southern chairlift, just after 5:30 p.m. and arrived within 10 minutes.
The Kewaskum Fire Department and Sunburst workers both safely evacuated everyone on the chair lift in about 40 minutes. Nobody was injured. Lisa and Lyla Rolfe were two of the 14 firefighters rescued.
“This firefighter named John, he was telling me that you’re just going to put a seat under your chairlift, then put this harness around your back so you didn’t fall off the chair,” said Lyla Rofle. “You kind of scoot and then they just lower you down. It was super easy, super simple.”
The fire department said they train with the ski area annually for these types of situations.
